When you’re from a small town like Pali, the idea of making it big in Mumbai, let alone in the entertainment industry, feels like a far-fetched dream. But for me, that dream has always been bigger than my circumstances. Growing up in a town where there were no role models in the entertainment space, I had no clue how to transform my love for mimicry into a career. It was a hobby that brought a few laughs, but nothing more. Little did I know that one day, I’d be sharing the stage with Bollywood’s biggest stars, from Akshay Kumar to Salman Khan.
The Beginning: Mimicry as a Hobby
It all started innocently enough. I would mimic voices for fun, imitating actors and famous personalities. Sometimes, I would do it just to make my friends laugh. But the first time I got serious recognition was at a wedding in my hometown. I mimicked a Bollywood actor, and the crowd’s reaction was unforgettable. That was the moment I thought, Maybe I could take this seriously.
In 2007, I had my first professional photoshoot. By 2008, I saw my striking resemblance to Akshay Kumar, not just in face but in body language and voice. People around me started noticing it too, and it gave me a nudge to explore mimicry more seriously. From mimicking Akshay Kumar to even getting noticed for it, I felt like something special was brewing.
The Big Move: Mumbai & First Break
After completing my graduation, I packed my bags and moved to Mumbai in 2010. While studying Event Management, my heart was still set on entertainment. In 2012, I got my first shot at television with Comedy Circus, where Akshay Kumar was the guest. I remember the thrill of meeting him and performing in front of him. That moment when he told me, You are the real Akshay Kumar, is still one of my life’s most validating experiences.
From there, things started picking up. I continued appearing in shows and gaining recognition for my mimicry, especially my spot-on Akshay Kumar impersonations. But it wasn’t just about the voice anymore; I was becoming more conscious of how much I needed to embody the personality I was mimicking, mannerisms, body language, and attitude.
The Kapil Sharma Show: A Dream Come True
Fast forward to 2015, and my career took another giant leap when I was invited to perform on The Kapil Sharma Show. It wasn’t just another comedy show; it was the platform that would bring me closer to the biggest stars in Bollywood. The moment I met Salman Khan on set was surreal. He wasn’t just a star in front of me; he was a dream come true. And when he acknowledged my mimicry with, It feels like I’m seeing the real Akshay in front of me, I couldn’t believe it. The respect and validation from him and the other stars made all the effort worthwhile.
But the real learning came from performing live in front of an audience. There were no retakes. The audience’s energy, the feedback, the applause, all of that made me understand how crucial it is to keep your timing sharp and improvise when necessary. Performing on such a big stage, especially with legends like Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, and others, taught me that confidence is key to a successful performance.
Behind the Scenes of a Comedy Show: The Real Work
What most people don’t see is the immense preparation and hard work that goes into making a show like The Kapil Sharma Show look effortless. Weeks before the show, the writers craft a script. Then, actors like me come in and start fine-tuning it, adding our personal touch. The first step is rehearsing the lines over and over, making sure everything flows naturally. We also work on body language, timing, and the entry and exit cues, every little detail is rehearsed meticulously.
But the most challenging part? Performing live without any retakes. Once you’re on stage, you can’t afford to make a mistake. The audience’s reactions are raw and real, and that adds a whole new level of pressure. However, it’s that same energy that boosts your confidence and drives you to perform even better.
The Power of Hard Work & Persistence
Looking back, it’s clear that the road to success wasn’t easy. There were times when the audience didn’t laugh, or when I stumbled on stage. But that’s part of the journey. Every failed performance was an opportunity to learn. What I’ve realized is that mimicry isn’t just about copying voices. It’s about capturing the essence of a person, their mannerisms, their vibe, their energy, and bringing it to life. The more authentic and true to the character you are, the more the audience connects with you.
Lessons from the Journey
From performing on small stages in my hometown to sharing the stage with Bollywood legends on The Kapil Sharma Show, the journey has been a rollercoaster of challenges, hard work, and unforgettable moments. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: never underestimate the power of your dreams.
I started as a kid from a small town, doing mimicry for fun. Today, I’m living a dream I never thought possible. Whether it’s Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, or any other superstar, the dream wasn’t just about meeting them. It was about earning their respect, creating a name for myself, and showing the world that passion and hard work can take you places you never imagined.
Takeaway for Aspiring Artists
To anyone out there who feels like their dreams are too big or too far away, I say this: keep going. There were times when I felt like giving up, but persistence pays off. If you have a talent or a passion, nurture it. It’s the consistency and dedication that leads you to the biggest stages. Never stop learning, never stop improving, and most importantly, never stop believing in yourself.
The journey has just begun, and the future looks exciting. Let’s see where this adventure takes me next.
Keep dreaming, keep performing, and keep entertaining.
